Two goals apiece from Javier “Chicharito” Hernández (35’ and 75’) and Giovani Dos Santos (62’ and 67’) and one from Aldo de Nigris (64’) gave Mexico a 5-0 win over Cuba in their CONCACAF Gold Cup 2011 Group A fixture on Thursday night.
The result sees Mexico through to the quater-finals of the regional championship following their 5-0 win over El Salvador on Sunday night. Cuba must now beat El Salvador in their final group stage match to have a chance of making the quarters as a third-placed team. Mexico will meet Costa Rica on Sunday in Chicago in the final round of Group A fixtures.
