The highly anticipated FC Barcelona Nike 2011/12 home and away kits were officially launched on Tuesday night Spanish time on the club’s website featuring modeling from club captain Carlos Puyol and striker Pedro.

The new home and away uniforms of the 2010/11 Spanish La Liga champions and UEFA Champions League finalists are the first in Barca’s history to feature a paid sponsor on them with the name and logo of non-profit organization The Qatar Foundation now emblazoned on the famed jerseys. Both kits are now available at the World Soccer Shop FC Barcelona Store.

According to a press release form Nike: For the start of the 2011-2012 season Barcelona will play in a new home and away kit featuring a modern aesthetic while remaining faithful to the club’s most distinctive patterns and club history.

The body of the home shirt features the iconic burgundy and blue stripe know around the world with eleven stripes embolden on the shirt for the first time. On the inside collar of the shirt a graphic bears the motto “Tots unit fem força” (“All together, we are strong”), which is taken from Barcelona’s club anthem.

The Barcelona away kit will be a bold black creating a new and fresh statement for away fixtures. The black shirt features a distinctive black and grey graphic on the shoulder reminiscent of the Catalan flag, the “Senyera”.

While the history and tradition of the club is present in the shirt design, the new kits are made from Nike’s ground-breaking recycled polyester — which for the first time includes both the shirt and shorts.

Each complete kit is made up of up to thirteen reclaimed plastic water bottles. This new manufacturing process reduces energy consumption by up to 30% compared to manufacturing traditional polyester and saves nearly 100 million plastic water bottles from being dumped at landfill sites.

The home shorts are blue and carry a distinctive burgundy line down each side with the uniform completed by blue socks and the letters “FCB” in yellow at the back of each calf. While the away shorts are black and will feature the letters “FCB” in yellow at the back of each calf.

The light weight kits (13% lighter than previous versions) actively regulate the players’ body temperatures on the pitch to help keep them dry and cool at all times through use of Nike Dri-FIT technology. This technology draws sweat away from the player’s body through the material where it can evaporate.

Temperature regulation is helped by ventilation zones, consisting of hundreds of tiny laser cut holes from the under arms to the waistband, allowing air to circulate to help keep players dry, cool and comfortable. For the first time the club crest on the front of the shirt is heat transferred, making it even lighter and crucially allowing this area to now be ventilated as well.

The shirt has a new aerodynamic fit this season, now slimmer and more athletic, providing 17% more stretch than the Barcelona shirt of two years ago. While a bonded hem offers a streamlined look that reduces irritation caused by chafing.

To complement the new match day kits Nike has launched a unique Barcelona line of training and lifestyle clothing for both players and fans to wear on and off pitch.

Featuring the symbols and heritage that unite the club and fans the new lifestyle wear includes rugby jerseys and N98 jacket emboldened with “Barca” in gold. A t-shirt will also bear the FC Barcelona badge as a beating heart made up of blue and red laces to express club support.
