Vasco da Gama Penalty 2011 Third Jersey Officially Launched

Earlier this week we brought you a first look at the Vasco da Gama Penalty 2011 third kit. Given the importance of the Anti-Racism message that the new jersey conveys, we’re now bringing coverage of the official shirt launch held on Thurday at the club’s headquarters in Rio de Janeiro that featured the new black outfield player kit and white goalkeeper kit.

According to the Vasco website:

The new uniform “Camisa Negra”, recalls a very exciting chapter in the history of the club that began in 1924 when when José Augusto Prestes, then president of Club de Regatas Vasco da Gama, removed the club from the Associação Metropolitana de Esportes Atléticos (AMEA) following a request from the league calling  for the removal of 12 black players on the team. Thus began Vasco da Gama’s campaign for democracy and social inclusion in Brazilian football, which until then restricted the sport only to the elite.
