Monterrey won their third league title yesterday by defeating Cruz Azul 2-1 in the second leg of the 2009 Mexican Primera Apertura final. Their victory in Mexico City saw Los Rayados win the two-game final series 6-4 on aggregate.
Aldo de Nigris put Monterrey 1-0 lead ahead a header in the 55th minute on a cross from Chile international Humberto Suazo.
Alejandro Castro equalized for Cruz Azul in the 77th. However, the hosts hopes of tying on aggregate the series were destroyed when Suazo scored with seconds left in the match.
