Peter Crouch put Spurs ahead 1-0 in the 9th. Wigan were able to the game at this score until after the break when Defore began his scoring onslaught in the 51st. He followed his opener with goals in the 54th, 58th, 69th and 87th. Aaron Lennon, Niko Kranjcar and a Chris Kirkland own goal added to Tottenham’s tally while a Paul Scharner goal in the 57th was Wigan’s sole consolation in an otherwise forgettable day for the Lactics.

Today’s game saw the first time that a team has scored nine in a Premier League match since Manchester United thrashed Ipswich 9-0 at Old Trafford in 1995.
