[digg=http://digg.com/soccer/Sunderland_Man_Darren_Bent_Adds_Twitter_Logo_and_ID_to_Boots]Sunderland striker, England international, English Premier League third leading scorer and Twitter Master Darren Bent has had his Twitter ID and a Twitter logo placed on the tongues of his football boots.
The new boots were designed by Umbro and Bent in recognition of him being the “Barclays English Premier League’s most high-profile social networker” with over 15,000 followers.
The Umbro Speciali soccer shoes feature the embroidered name of Bent’s Twitter tag ‘@dbthetruth’ along with the famous Twitter logo. The forward wore the new boots for the first time during last Saturday’s 2-2 draw with West Ham United at the Stadium of Light.
“Twitter is the perfect way for me to chat with fans, answer their questions and enjoy a bit of banter. Now I have my Twitter tag personalised onto my boots, hopefully more fans will follow me this season and with a bit of luck they’ll even help me score a few more goals this season.”
Bent has been known to Tweet up to 50 times a day via his BlackBerry. He stirred up some controversy this summer when he accused Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy of delaying his £10 million transfer from Spurs to Sunderland via the social networking site.
