The South African Rugby Union and new technical sponsor ASICS have unveiled the Springboks 2014\/15 home kit that will be worn in the lead up to next year’s Rugby World Cup. The new uniform was launched in Cape Town on Thursday under the theme “Made of South Africa”. It will be available at World Rugby Shop<\/a>, Lovell Rugby<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong><\/strong>and Kitbag<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to ASICS: The new kit, which includes the new jerseys, shorts and socks, was developed by ASICS in close conjunction with SARU. At every step the South African players were a part of the design, prototyping and testing process. Performance on the field is paramount and the finished product aims to guarantee the players have the product they need to perform.<\/p>\n

A key new feature of the new Springbok jerseys is the introduction of ASICS unique MOTIONDRY technology. This quick drying, breathable material ensures that the jersey stays lightweight during play. A revolution in rugby apparel.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s in the jersey? The new jerseys have been designed so that the stretch is horizontal which allows the player to wear the shirt tight fitted without feeling constrained by the fabric. The stretch of the shirts is blocked vertically, which reduces the chances of player\u2019s shirts being grabbed by an opponent whilst the reinforced seams mitigate the risk of the jerseys tearing.<\/p>\n

The use of \u2018Gripper\u2019 technology in the chest area of the new jerseys enables player to get a better hold of the ball. Each jersey is also fitted with a bonded GPS pocket. The bonding of the seams and the stretchable neoprene limits irritations and makes sure that GPS\u2019s of different sizes fit in the jerseys.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s in the Shorts? The new player shorts are made out of woven material which makes it hard for opponents to grab the shorts. At every step this was done with the team providing feedback and being part of the design process. The addition of a small towel area on the shorts enables the players to keep their hands dry which assists with ball control.<\/p>\n

The Springbok team will run onto field in their new jerseys for the first time when they take on the Samsung-sponsored World XV on 7 June in Cape Town.<\/p>\n
