Today, adidas revealed the Arsenal away kit for the 2020\/21 season, uniting generations of fans with reference to Highbury\u2019s iconic marble halls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Drawing inspiration from the patterns, colours, and motifs found amongst the iconic East Stand of Highbury and its prestigious marble halls, the away jersey is a literal reference of the marble within it and the podium upon which the statue of iconic former manager, Herbert Chapman rests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Built in 1936, the fa\u00e7ade of the East Stand remains in place after the club’s 2006 move to Emirates Stadium\u2013 a permanent reminder of the Arsenal\u2019s storied past.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cArsenal\u2019s place in North London is synonymous with the club\u2019s move to Highbury in 1913. Quite simply, it was the birthplace of the modern club. We wanted to take the community \u2013 through design – back to Highbury\u2019s halls, to reminisce via a pattern that speaks to the significance of this chapter of the club\u2019s history. \u201cImportantly for this jersey, we wanted to bring these echoes of Highbury into Emirates Stadium, to a new generation of fans, and to the modern player, all via a jersey that fuses the marble style with the latest performance innovations for the 2021 athlete\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whilst retaining a clean and versatile aesthetic, the Arsenal 2020\/21 away shirt has a bespoke, hand-drawn design which uses the colours off white, maroon, and black – and the natural pattern of the marble – to represent the details of the marble halls that saw Arsenal lift the league title thirteen times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Arsenal\u2019s Reiss Nelson has spoken about what the jersey means to him; \u201cArsenal and adidas have a history of creating amazing kits together and this season\u2019s designs feel like another step forward. For any Arsenal fan Highbury is very important to what we are as a club, so being able to represent some of that as we take the field in this new marble away kit will be a proud moment.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Arsenal Women\u2019s Lisa Evans has also given her thoughts on the 20\/21 alternate jersey; \u201cThe kit looks and feels great, and what\u2019s even more exciting is the fact we will be the first to wear it in such a big game for the club this weekend. The whole team is excited to get back on the pitch and put in a good performance.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The supporting launch film also celebrates the famous marble halls of Highbury, reflecting on the club\u2019s glorious history while looking forward to a promising future. The film begins in the iconic East Stand entrance before moving into an alternative marble world. The one-shot sequence tells the story behind the shirt in a visionary way that unites past icons with the present-day heroes taking the club forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
