adidas Football has released reissued versions of Argentina’s 2006 World Cup kits ahead of the 2026 tournament, recreating the exact sky blue and white home jersey and navy blue away shirt the national team wore two decades earlier. The replica kits mark a return to the designs Argentina used during the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany, where the team advanced to the quarter finals before their elimination from the competition.

The reissued kits utilize the adidas +Teamgeist template, which translates from German as “team spirit” and was the signature design framework adidas employed across its national team offerings during the mid-2000s.

Both the Argentina 2006 home and away reissue versions feature the loose-fitting silhouettes characteristic of that era’s football apparel, a marked departure from the tailored, form-fitting designs that have dominated jersey manufacturing in recent years. This styling choice represents an authentic recreation of the original garments rather than a modernized interpretation.

These kits hold particular significance in Argentina’s football history as they were worn during a formative period for Lionel Messi, who was 19 years old when he competed in the 2006 World Cup wearing these designs. Argentina continued using these kits through 2008, including their appearance at Copa América 2007, where they reached the final before finishing as runners-up. The jerseys therefore represent more than a single tournament, capturing a two-year span in the national team’s competitive history.

The decision to reissue designs from 2006 connects the upcoming 2026 World Cup to a specific moment in Argentina’s past, though the circumstances surrounding each tournament differ considerably. The original kits were worn during a rebuilding phase for Argentine football, while the 2026 tournament will see the defending champions attempt to retain their title following their 2022 World Cup victory in Qatar.
