PUMA Football has released a limited-edition Portugal kit honoring Eusébio da Silva Ferreira, marking six decades since the legendary forward’s 1965 Ballon d’Or triumph.
The special jersey, produced in a run of just 1,965 numbered pieces, will make its sole on-field appearance when Portugal faces Armenia on November 16th in Porto.
The black-and-gold design pays tribute to Eusébio’s famous moniker “Pantera Negra” (Black Panther), a nickname that defined his explosive playing style during Portugal’s golden era of the 1960s. The Portugal Eusébio special edition jersey’s dark base is accented with gold detailing on the PUMA logo and Portuguese Football Federation crest, while a high-quality flat knit collar and cuffs provide structural contrast. The phrase “Pantera Negra” appears at the back of the neck as a signature element.
Eusébio was the first Portuguese player to win the Ballon d’Or, an achievement that established him among European football’s elite during his prime years with Benfica and the national team. His connection to PUMA runs deep—the brand’s iconic KING boot was developed with his input, cementing a partnership between player and manufacturer that influenced football footwear design for generations.
The authentic version of the Portugal Eusébio’s jersey comes pre-marked with the number 13 on both front and back, reflecting the digit Eusébio wore throughout much of his career. This detail distinguishes it from standard team replicas and reinforces the commemorative nature of the release. The limited production quantity directly references the year of his Ballon d’Or win, creating a clear historical link for collectors and supporters.
Portugal’s current squad, led by captain Cristiano Ronaldo, will wear the kit for only the Armenia match before returning to their standard team colors. This one-time usage adds to the jersey’s exclusivity while allowing the Portuguese Football Federation to celebrate its most decorated historical figure during competitive play. The timing of the release positions it within Portugal’s preparation cycle as they build towards their FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign.
