Kappa Kombat 2000 25th Anniversary Edition Kits
Twenty-five years after introducing a football shirt that transformed athletic performance and design, Kappa has released the Kombat XXV, a commemorative edition honoring the original 2000 innovation.
The Italian sportswear brand first unveiled the Kombat at the UEFA EURO 2000 in Belgium and the Netherlands, where the Italian National Team wore the revolutionary tight-fitting design that introduced “stop stopping” technology to professional football.
The original Kombat shirt featured hyper-elastic fabric that provided athletes with approximately 30 centimeters of additional freedom of movement while making holding fouls more apparent to officials.
This technical advancement established a new standard for football kit design that persists across the sport today. What began as an innovative approach to athletic performance has evolved into the industry norm, with form-fitting, elastic shirts now standard equipment for professional players worldwide.
Kappa initiated its 25th anniversary celebration in March with “Keep on Kombat,” a retrospective exhibition at the brand’s Milan headquarters. The commemorative project continues with the release of the Kombat XXV shirt, constructed from 92% recycled polyester and 8% elastane. The updated design maintains the original’s performance-focused DNA while incorporating contemporary materials and construction methods.
French footballer Djibril Cissé, who wore the original Kombat during his time with AJ Auxerre, returns as the face of the anniversary campaign. Between November 15 and 30, eighteen Kappa-sponsored teams across multiple continents will wear the special edition Kombat XXV in official matches.
Participating clubs include Genoa CFC, ACF Fiorentina, OGC Nice, Red Star, Real Valladolid Club de Fútbol, Racing Club de Avellaneda, Vasco da Gama, Nacional de Madeira, and Athens Kallithea, among others.
