Vancouver Whitecaps 2025 Black History Month Kit

Vancouver Whitecaps FC have unveiled their 2025 Black History Month jersey, a special edition adidas kit that represents a meaningful collaboration between the reigning Canadian Championship winners and local Vancouver artist Anthony Joseph.

The jersey, revealed on February 1, 2025, embodies a significant tribute to Black history and culture in both Vancouver and Canada through its thoughtfully crafted design elements.

The Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2025 Black History Month adidas kit’s design incorporates traditional pan-African colors – red, yellow, green, and black – while featuring distinctive Kente patterns integrated into both the team logo and jersey numbers. These design choices reflect deep cultural significance, with TELUS prominently displayed as the premier partner across the chest of the jersey. A notable element of the design is the inclusion of a hummingbird on the jock tag, symbolizing both Vancouver’s official bird and its significance in Caribbean nations where several Whitecaps players trace their heritage.

Anthony Joseph, the Vancouver-based artist behind the design, brings his respected artistic vision to the project, having previously gained national recognition for his Hogan’s Alley mural in the Vancouver Mural Festival. His approach to the jersey design intentionally weaves together elements that represent both Vancouver’s local Black community and the broader cultural heritage of the African diaspora in Canada.

The Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2025 Black History Month kit features a powerful quote from Jean Augustine, the first Black Canadian woman to serve as a federal Minister of the Crown and Member of Parliament, reading “Black history is not just for black people. Black history is Canadian history.” This statement, positioned on the neckline, emphasizes the integral role of Black history within Canadian identity.

The Whitecaps debuted the commemorative BHM jersey during their MLS preseason campaign in Marbella, Spain, where they’ve already worn it in a successful 2-0 victory against FC LNZ Cherkasy on February 2. The team is scheduled to wear the jersey again in their match against IF Brommapojkarna on February 6, continuing to showcase this significant piece of athletic and cultural representation.

The jersey will make its home debut at BC Place during a crucial Concacaf Champions Cup Round One second leg match against Deportivo Saprissa on February 27.
