To commemorate their 120th anniversary, Spanish LaLiga side Atlético de Madrid will don a blue and white kit inspired by the one worn by the first players in its history. The Nike shirt, featuring the original club badge on the chest, is a tribute to the one used for the first match of Atleti’s history.
The Atlético de Madrid 120th Anniversary Nike jersey will be worn this Wednesday in the LaLiga game against Mallorca, following the footsteps of the first Atlético de Madrid players in their historic debut.
Atlético de Madrid club was founded on 26 April 1903 as a branch of Athletic Club by a group of Basque students living in Madrid. Athletic Club also wore blue and white at the time. The first Atlético Madrid crest consisted of a belt surrounding a football with the intertwined initials of Athletic Club. Atético’s famous home red and white were adopted in 1911. Its badge was changed in 1917.
