Nike has released the home jersey that will be worn by defending champions USA at FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023. The shirt joins the United States 2023 women’s and men’s teams away kit in their latest match range.
According to U.S. Soccer the jersey was designed with the players’ input, who are pioneers and innovators in their field. The colors and style of the uniforms reflect their influence and inspiration. Nike’s designers also drew from abstract expressionism, a movement that originated in New York in the 1940s and shifted the art world’s focus from Europe to the U.S., just like the USA team did for women’s soccer.
The uniforms have a unique USA “signature” that is hand painted with ink on paper. This is a tribute to the abstract expressionist artists, who would sign their paintings with their own style.
The inner pride mark on the uniforms honors the USWNT’s four Women’s World Cup titles in 1991, 1999, 2015 and 2019.
The USWNT home uniform, which will be worn for the first time in the two-game series against the Republic of Ireland on April 8 and 11 in Austin, Texas, and St. Louis, challenges the tradition of wearing white at home and features a custom drip paint technique pattern.
The pattern represents the diversity and unity of the USWNT players and their personalities. It is created by using an action painting method that makes every jersey different. The jersey also has gold branding to celebrate the team’s four-time World Cup champion status and is paired with blue shorts and white socks.
