A World Cup-winning midfielder, trend-setting designer – the daughter of a Beatle, no less – a market-leading sportswear manufacturer, and ever-increasing demands for sustainability and a new way of doing things. Add all of that together and what have you got? That’s right, a fully vegan football boot.
News of a collaboration between Paul Pogba, Stella McCartney and Adidas came out of the blue somewhat, but it should not have come as any surprise.
Innovation is what all of the above do best. Boundaries, for them, are there to be pushed and eventually broken, proving that whatever normal used to be, it isn’t any more. Times change, with visionaries from all walks of life leading the way.
Pogba, with multicoloured hair and a larger-than-life personality, is the perfect face for evolution in football. He has conquered the global game with France, won titles in Italy and England, and will not be throwing in the towel on a European campaign with Manchester United in 2021-22 that has them priced at 37/2 in the Champions League odds from Betfair to go all the way. Twice they have come from behind to win a match with a late winner, but there are a number of teams who currently look much stronger.
What are Pogba’s new boots?
The latest release from Adidas is the Predator Freak model, which will be available in selected stores from November 1.
It is the first 100 percent vegan football boot to be released, with a striking design allowing the highest standards of fashion, performance and production to be met. For those involved, this is more than just another piece of footwear. This is a statement.
It is not the first to be made by Pogba, who has forged a successful career at the very highest level by forcing himself out of comfort zones and chasing down continuous improvement. There will always be doubters, naysayers that need to be won over, but for those with an elite mentality that allows them to settle for nothing but the best, that is all part of the fun.

Pogba has revealed that the concept for a vegan boot came to him during a podcast discussion with McCartney.
He has said: “I am a footballer first and foremost, but I have a huge interest in fashion and design and I’ve always wanted to explore this further.”
McCartney says the boots use “part recycled materials” and proves that we “can continue to create with the planet in mind”, with her association with Adidas making it easy to team up with Pogba on a project that is already causing quite a stir.
Expect more to follow – that is how progress works – but for now embrace being a ‘Freak’ and look forward to sport taking on an ever more important role in the challenges that continue to face all of us in everyday life.
