The Welsh Rugby Union and new technical Macron have released the 2021/22 home and away kits for the Wales men’s and women’s national teams.
The reigning Six Nations champion men’s team debuted the red home shirt during Saturday’s loss to the always formidable New Zealand All Blacks.
According to Macron: The jerseys feature sophisticated and elegant graphics as well as a strong message of sustainability and respect for the environment, given their Eco-Fabric composition – polyester made in 100% recycled plastic, certified by the Global Recycled Standard. ‘Green souled’ shirts made with environmental protection in mind, a choice and mentality shared and appropriated by the Welsh Rugby Union.
The new ‘Home’ jersey is ‘Wales red’ with a V-neck with white borders, the same white borders also applied to the sleeves. On the chest, in lighter red sublimation print, there are lines that form the design of a V, taking inspiration from the lower part of the patch, with the Welsh coat of arms applied to the chest, heart side. The Macron Hero is embroidered in white, on the right. On the backneck, tone on tone in embossed graphics, the writing in Welsh ANRHYDEDD, meaning ‘Honour’.
The ‘Away’ version is black with a V-neck with dark green borders and white details. The shirt features sublimation-printed tone-on-tone graphics composed of irregular geometric figures on both the front and back. The words ANGERDD, meaning ‘Passion’, appear embossed on the backneck. The Macron Hero is embroidered in white beside the patch with the logo of the Welsh Rugby Union.
Both jerseys have a Body Fit and the fabrics used are Eco-Armevo and Eco-Bodytex, which ensure lightness, breathability, and maximum resistance.
