Umbro South Africa and the Ethiopia Football Federation have released the 2021/22 home, away and third kits of the Ethiopia national teams.
The new offering from Umbro is an ode to the national flag tricolour, with each jersey overlayed with graphics inspired by traditional textile patterning.
The home jersey features a series of triangular diagonals in varying shades of green on the front, finished with an emerald collar.
Following suit, the saturated yellow away jersey is covered by an embossed tonal print in the traditional style.
The alternate jersey follows the established theme, with a wagon wheel graphic against a striking crimson background.
All three jerseys are accented with tri-coloured sleeve cuffs, Ethiopian flag detail above the hem and are made from a lightweight performance fabric. The kits will be worn by the Walia Ibex as they prepare for the upcoming African Cup of Nations tournament in Cameroon.
Commenting ahead of the launch ceremony, President of the Ethiopia Football Federation Mr Isayas Jira said: “We are very happy to launch our national team’s 2021/22 apparel collection today, along with our technical partner Umbro. We have prepared the kits in a design palette that is reflective of our national colours, and in patterns that we believe Ethiopians will relate to.”
“We are also working on bringing the entire collection to the market, so our fans will be able to purchase the kits and dress to the hilt during our match days. We are delighted with our working relationship with Umbro and look forward to even more fruitful years ahead.”
David Ricketts, CEO at Umbro South Africa remarked: “The launch of this apparel collection has been very highly anticipated, and we are hugely excited to finally unveil the new Ethiopian kits.”
“Our partnership with the EFF is predicated on our mutual football heritages. Ours as football’s most authentic brand and theirs as a giant of the African game. With this established understanding of the EFF and its ethos, our intention throughout the design process was to highlight Ethiopia’s vibrant national culture in a visually meaningful way. There is pride woven into every stitch and we look forward to sharing that with Ethiopian football fans around the globe.”
