Athletic Club 2020/21 New Balance Home Kit

Eight-time Spanish LaLiga champions Athletic Club have released their 2020/21 New Balance home kit.

In the familiar red and white stripes of the Basque Country-based side, this year’s shirt incorporates design inspiration from a feature at the Athletic Club Museum that includes the names of all of the team’s official members since its inception. The names are represented by tonal horizontal lines within the jersey’s stripes.

The specially designed stripes are part of New Balance Football’s ‘Born of the People’ (Herritik sortu zinalako) campaign for Athletic Club. The effort celebrates the team’s unique identity. ‘Herretik sortu zinalako’ is taken from Athletic Bilbao’s anthem. It is Basque for Bbecause you (the Club, the team) are created from the Country (the people).”

The Basque flag is incorporated into the kit at the rear outside collar while the lion of San Mamés, which is stitched onto the inside of the Athletic Club crest and is visible when the jersey is turned inside-out.

Athletic Club Lezama Academy graduate and club captain Iker Muniain commented: “I really like the unique detail on the jersey,” Muniain said. “While it also includes traditional details that show we are a Club that represents unity. Wearing this kit will mean a lot to the players and our supporters.”
