MLS original club Colorado Rapids have dropped their 2020 adidas home jersey. The kit is called “The Nine Six” is recognition of the year of Major League Soccer’s and the Rapids’ first season twenty-five years ago.
According to the Colorado Rapids:
“The Nine Six celebrates an important milestone in our club’s history,” said Wayne Brant, Colorado Rapids Sr. Vice President of Business Operations. “Twenty-five years ago, the groundwork was laid for the growth of this sport with the development of our league, and in the years since, we’ve been gifted with some unforgettable moments. We’re excited to kick off the 2020 season with the launch of our new kit and look forward to announcing the full list of 25th season celebrations soon.”
“The Nine Six” jersey features the iconic 3-stripe adidas EQT (equipment) designs, which first debuted in the 1990s when MLS was formed and have been brought back for the league’s all-new, 26-team collection. Unique to The Nine Six is a Colorado State flag jock tag and its iconic “C” as an appliqué at the back neck. The jersey also honors the club’s history as an MLS original with a silver, nine-star ‘Founding Club’ mark that is only featured on the Authentic jerseys of the nine MLS founding clubs.
The Rapids will debut their new kit at their home opener on Saturday, March 7, at DICK’S Sporting Goods Park against Orlando City SC.
