AS Monaco Kappa Kombat XX Home Kit

Kappa has launched a special edition AS Monaco home kit to mark the 20th anniversary of the game changing Kombat 2000 jersey –  the world’s first ever slimfit football shirt.

A complete retro lifestyle collection which pays homage to the history of the French Ligue 1 club was unveiled along with what is called the AS Monaco Kappa Kombat XX kit.

The Kappa Kombat 2000 jersey was designed for the  Italian national football team and worn by the Azzurri from 2000 to 2002.  The shirt was a first of its kind in an era of looser fitting kits because of its tight “second skin” fabric.

“When the defender grabs Inzaghi’s shirt, it stretches and the referee sees. It extends to 40cm more than normal, and with 40 centimeters more, you will have the chance to score more goals!” said kit designer Emanuele during the official presentation of the Italy EURO 2000 home jersey.

The new version of the kit worn by AS Monaco during Tuesday’s 1-0 home win over Angers SCO uses the same silhouette as the 2000 incarnation of the jersey. Its fabric has been modernized to include elastane as well as polyester however.

The photo shoot for the throwback range was done by photographer Jérémie Mazuka. It featured young players of AS Monaco born between 1998 and 2001 as a nod to AS Monaco’s first sponsorship deal with the Italian brand.

During the period an AS Monaco side featuring the likes of Ludovic Giuly, David Trezeguet, John Arne Riise and Marco Simone  won the team’s seventh Ligue 1 title.
