The Japan Football Association has unveiled the adidas home kit that will be worn by its men’s and women’s national teams over the next year.
In the traditional blue with red accents of Japanese national team kits, the Japan 2020/21 adidas home jersey has several features celebrating the country, its soccer fans and its art and culture.
The sky collage at the front of the kit is made up of five shades of blue. It depicts the connection between Japan’s players and fans. The pattern is inspired by the traditional Japanese artform of Ukiyo-e.
The back of the Japan 2020 adidas home shirt is all blue and based on the country’s sunny skies. The red adidas stripes on the sides of the kit represents the rising sun of Japan emerging int he blue sky.
A red print on the sign off area of the jersey was created by artist Kazuaki Nomura. It includes the phrases “Samurai Soul” and “Lion Soul”. The text in the graphic become “Nippon Sunny” when turned over.
