Nottingham Forest 1979 European Cup Macron Celebration Kit

Published on

Nottingham Forest Football Club and technical partner Macron have released a limited edition “Celebration Kit” to commemorate the fortieth anniversary of the the first of the team’s two UEFA European Cup (now the Champions League) titles.

Only 1,979 individually numbered units of the well-received jersey will be available for purchase. The club will not wear them in English Football League action during the 2019/20 season.

According to Nottingham Forest:

On 30th May 1979 at Munich’s Olympic Stadium, Nottingham Forest’s Trevor Francis scored the goal that gave his team an historic 1-0 victory in the final against Swedish side Malmö FF, allowing captain John McGovern to raise to the sky the first of two consecutive European Cups. Today, the English club and Macron, the technical sponsor of Forest and leader in teamwear manufacturing, have presented a special-edition shirt that celebrates the 40th anniversary of that amazing victory.

This anniversary shirt was created in the classic Nottingham Forest red or ‘Garibaldi red.’ It has a V-neck and a white trim that runs along the collar and the sleeve edges. The backneck is personalized with a red tag that features the club logo. The words CHAMPIONS OF EUROPE 1979 are continuously embroidered inside the collar. On the back of the collar trim, the European Cup (today Champions League) is embroidered in white.

All the names of the players who participated in the 1979 triumph are present in the fabric of the garment, repeatedly printed tone-on-tone sublimation on the right-front side of the shirt, a detail that makes this jersey really unique.
