Today New Balance officially revealed the new FC Porto away kit for the Dragões (Dragons) 2016/17 Primeira Liga, Taça de Portugal and UEFA Champions League seasons. The shirt has been launched as part of the ‘Outro Nível’ (Another Level) kits campaign for the upcoming season. It will be available at World Soccer Shop, Subside Sports, Kitbag and UK Soccer Shop .
New Balance has created a truly unique kit with the Draco or ‘Dragon’ constellation featuring on the front of the magnificent black away shirt with the eternal, ‘Porto! Porto! Porto!’ part of FC Porto´s anthem, appears on the internal hem of the jersey.
Alpha Draconis, Thuban or, simply, Dragão (Dragon) is the brightest star of the constellation that bears the same name. At 215 light-years from Earth and 135 times more radiant than the Sun, this indicator of North was a nightly guide for travellers and a Polar Star in the time of the pyramids and pharaohs. Today, 4,800 years later, it serves as an inspiration and a symbol for FC Porto, the city and the team’s fans.
Commenting on the kit, General Manager of New Balance Football, Richard Wright said: “This kit is a testament to the R&D team here at New Balance. They have taken the club’s DNA, the dragon, and brought it front and centre for the world to see. Along with the sleek design, NB Dry and breathability technology, this is one of our most inspiring kits to date and I can’t wait to see this kit on display next season.”
The kit has been developed using NB Dry technology, a moisture wicking fabric that helps keep players cool and dry whilst wicking sweat from the body, making it fast drying. Laser cut and bonded eyelets placed to the under arm, and an engineered stripe mesh to the side seams aid airflow around the body. Finishing off the design is the integrated shaped collar with a laser cut and bonded mesh insert, one colour Celestial blue club crest and trims.
The kit is completed with black shorts and socks featuring Celestial blue crests and embellishments. To offer added support to the ankle, the socks have built in comfort zones while the foot bed has been developed with polypropylene to help alleviate excess moisture when the foot makes contact with the boot.
The goalkeeper kit is constructed with engineered black Flex fabric panels to offer a greater range of movement, contrast white heat transfers, frame the Flex zones and identify these key areas. Designed in Alloy grey with black and white contrast trims, the kit perfectly complements the outfield design.
FC Porto’s Danilo Pereira said: “This is a very special kit design. The Draco constellation is at the very heart of the Club. Wearing the constellation on our chests shows the ambition of the Club and our fans. I can’t wait to wear this next season!”
