Canada Soccer and Umbro Canada officially presented the Canada 2016 home soccer jersey. Released using the hashtag #CanadaRED, “Les Rouges” (The Reds) new primary shirt will make its debut during a 2018 World Cup qualifier against Mexico on March 25 in Vancouver.
Modeled by Queens Park Rangers winger Junior Hoilett for its online reveal, the Canada 2016 Umbro home kit is inspired by the Canadian national flag.
It uses a bespoke asymmetrical design from Umbro Canada that is highlighted by a vertical stripes that has a gradient from white to red beneath the Canada Soccer badge. Canada Soccer says that the look “ensures Canada’s colours are amplified near the heart – and soul – of every Canadian jersey.” The collar on the jersey has a hybrid rounded / overlapping look.
A Canadian flag is screenprinted below the rear collar of the shirt. A sound wave of the country’s national anthem is printed on its inside neckline. This feature has become a fixture on all recent Canada soccer jerseys. Canada Soccer’s custom a”Les Rouges” font is used for palyer names and numbering on the kit.
The Canada 2016 Umbro home jersey will be available at World Soccer Shop. A new away kit is expected for the 1986 World Cup qualifiers in the near future.
