adidas has released Italy national rugby team 2015 home kit in the lead-up to the kickoff to the RBS 6 nations tournament in February. The new Azzurri uniform will also be worn by the team at Rugby World Cup 2015 next summer. It will be on sale at World Rugby Shop, Kitbag Rugby and Lovell Rugby.
The Italy 2015 rugby shirt was developed over a two year period by a team of Germany-based adidas engineers and designers along with rugby experts.
After Rugby World Cup 2011 an analysis conducted by adidas and based on feedback from players revealed how the “fit” is the most important aspect for a rugby shirt. This guided the research for apparel technology aimed at improving the performance of athletes.
The result is a woven anti-rip fabric that is extensible and allows for players’ optimal movement. adidas says the it is the strongest rugby shirt that they have ever produced.
adidas has created two different shirts for specific positions – one for forward and the other for backs. Both jerseys have been developed based on the results of a body mapping process during various phases of the game.
The new Italy rugby kit is in the traditional light blue of the continental European powers and matched with pinstriped dark blue shorts and socks. The Federazione Italiana Rugby (FIR) badge is embroidered on the shirt’s left breast while the organization’s initials appear on the bottom of the placket.
The Italy men’s rugby team will debut the new strip when they meet 2014 6 Nations winners Ireland on Ferburary 7 at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.
