Burnley FC 1914 FA Cup Centenary Kit

Published on

Having earned promotion to the English Premier League for the 2014/15 season, Burnley Football Club wore a special replica shirt to mark the 100th anniversary of only FA Cup title during Saturday’s Championship win over Ipswich Town at Turf Moor.

According to the Clarets website: On April 25, 1914, the Clarets won the world’s most prestigious cup competition after defeating Liverpool 1-0 at the Crystal Palace Grounds, courtesy of Bert Freeman’s goal.

The match was the first occasion that a reigning monarch, King George V, had attended an FA Cup final.

To celebrate that triumph, and in conjunction with the 1914 Exhibition currently on display at Towneley Hall, the specially commissioned claret and blue shirt will feature the Royal Coat of Arms instead of the usual club crest. Permission was sought from Buckingham Palace for the club to use this special crest.

The names of manager, John Haworth and the squad from that 1914 triumph are also commemorated on the shirt in a special panel embroidered in the bottom left hand corner of the shirt.
