Boca Juniors 2013/14 Nike Home and Away Jerseys

Argentine giants Club Atlético Boca Juniors have unveiled their 2013/14 home and away jerseys from technical sponsor Nike. Both will be available at World Soccer Shop and Subside Sports.

According to Nike: Boca Juniors unveils new models for home and away jerseys for the upcoming Initial 2013 and Final 2014 local tournaments. Both designs are made in Argentina entirely of recycled polyester from plastic bottles following the same technological standards applied in other top international clubs such as FC Barcelona, Manchester City and Juventus.

In keeping with the inspiration and innovation so common in Nike, the home version features the classic Boca Juniors colors blue and gold, with sleeve edges and rounded collar in yellow. All jerseys come with their numbered authenticity label and on the inside the phrase “La mitad más uno” (“Half plus one”) in reference to the traditional idea that Boca Juniors fans spread across the country and make up half of the country’s population plus one.

The new away model is inspired by the myth that there used to be different jersey colors in the origins of Boca. But the most intriguing of all was a pink one that spanned the years with an aura of mystery. There are no pictures, except for the ones in the retina of those who saw it, and the oral tradition that has crossed the millennium.

Neither are there any certainties as to its origin. Some support the hypothesis of a red that could not stand the hard hand scrubbing to remove mud. Other say that the end tones were the result of the defection of the anilines used to dye white jerseys, a technique easier to get and that respresented low costs.

Nike was inspired by this myth to develop a model that links the Club’s past with a present of design, innovation and technology.
