MLS 2013 Player Name and Number Typeface

SCOTCH PLAINS, N.J. (March 7, 2013) – As Major League Soccer launched its 18th season, the league featured a new number identity look thanks to a collaborative effort between 343RLP+ creative group and the MLS in-house design department.

MLS unveiled the new custom typeface and number system strategy that serves to offer a bolder design to the authentic kits of all of the league’s 19 clubs. 343RLP’s principal and design director Rich Levy led the project with his design team, working alongside MLS to customize the new look.

“The new MLS ‘neo-classic’ name and number typeface illustrates a modern approach bridging straight lines and classic curves – clean, legible and distinctive with a contemporary twist in style,” said Levy. ”We wanted to create a sense of where soccer and design is heading on the global stage.”
