The Brazil 2013 Nike away jersey was unveiled on Friday at the Batalha das Quadras (“Battle of the Court”) competition in Rio de Janeiro. The release of the blue Seleção Brasileira away shirt follows that of the team’s 2013 home kit on Thursday morning. Both will be available soon at World Soccer Shop, Onionbag and Kitbag.
The new Brazil away kit was unveiled by legendary striker Ronaldo along with UFC fighter Junior Cigano, long jumper Maurren Maggi and basketball player Marcelo Machado. Nike states that it features the same design innovation and technology found in the iconic yellow home kit.
The shirt features a rounded blue collar detail with “V” shape beneath it, white shoulder taping and ribbed sleeve cuffs. As with the Brazil 2013 home jersey, a canary and five white stars are stamped on the inner upper back area of the kit. The stars represent Brazil’s five FIFA World Cup titles.
“Nascido para jogar futebol” (Born to play football) appears beneath the canary. The text has been a mainstay of Brazil’s kits over the last decade and is said the capture the essence of the Brazil national team and footballing culture.
Body temperature is regulated by ventilation zones, consisting of a series of small laser cut small holes that extend from the armpits to the hips. The allow air to circulate and keep players comfortable. The holes in the first row of the ventilation zone are cut in the shape of five stars in reference to Brazil’s world championships.
The Brazil 2013 Nike away shorts are white with blue vertical stripes on each side. Ventilation areas on the back help control heat and facilitate movement of athletes. Internal reinforcement provides more comfort to the players. Finally, the Seleção’s new away socks are blue with the text “Brasil” on the calf.
