Singapore 2012/14 Nike Home Kit

The Football Association of Singapore (FAS) and technical sponsor Nike have launched the Singapore 2012/14 home kit (now available at Subside Sports). According to the FAS:

The time is now for Singapore’s players, as they step on to the pitch and embark on the journey to win Southeast Asia’s most prestigious biennial football championship, the Asean Football Federation (AFF) Suzuki Cup 2012, held from 24 November to 22 December 2012.

The new National Team Kits are Nike’s most environmentally-friendly and technologically advanced — it is made from 100% recycled polyester and considered materials, and designed to bring out the best in athletic performance.

Singapore, as well as Thailand, have won the AFF Suzuki Cup a record three times. The Lions, who clinched back-to-back titles in 2005 and 2007, are determined to put up a strong performance in the upcoming competition and strive to achieve a record fourth title.

This will be the moment for players to shine and play for the pride of the country and fans as the Lions don the National Team Kit designed by Nike and the federation. And much hope will rest on the shoulders of talented midfielder Hariss Harun (21), who will be making his debut in this tournament, having missed the 2008 and 2010 editions due to injury.

“I’m very excited to finally be able to make my tournament debut at the AFF Suzuki Cup,” said Hariss. “I am raring to go and will definitely to do my best to help Singapore progress to the later stages and hopefully go on and win it for a record fourth time.”

Added Nike Singapore Marketing Manager Vijaya Kumar Jayaraj: “The Nike tagline for this campaign ‘My Time Is Now’ is apt as several of the Lions players will be making their debut in the AFF Suzuki Cup, including Hariss and the likes of Shahdan Sulaiman, while Safuwan Baharudin is expected to be a first team regular for the first time in this tournament. We hope that these players will take this opportunity to prove that the time has come for them to step up to the plate and cement their places in the Lions squad for years to come.”

In line with Nike’s commitment to combining athletic performance with lower environmental impact, fabric for the new kit’s shorts is made with 100% recycled polyester, while the shirt fabric is made with a minimum 96% recycled polyester. Each kit is made using an average of 13 recycled plastic bottles. The kits are constructed using Nike Dri-FIT technology to wick moisture, and are made out of 23 percent lighter fabric with 20 percent stronger knit structure than Nike’s previous kits. The shirts also feature laser-cut ventilation holes to promote localized cooling, to help regulate player temperatures during a match.

Each federation kit is developed around key insights inspired by the national identity and the distinctive football culture of every nation. Rich detailing throughout the jersey and shorts inspires the history and heritage of each team.

The Singapore home kit will once again be in the traditional red and white hue that is synonymous with the Lions and the citystate, while the away kit is a throwback to historic jerseys of the past and in classic blue, which was the first choice colour for the jerseys in the 1970s and 1980s, and reflects Singapore’s identity as an island city surrounded by tranquil waters. To capture the spirit of the team, an abstract Lions logo is emblazoned on the inside of the shirt below the collar and behind each player’s personal number, which is meant to inspire the players and ignite a sense of national pride among them.

Said Football Association of Singapore (FAS) President Zainudin Nordin: “Nike has designed a vibrant and energetic look for the Lions’ new kit which we are certain would be well received by both players and fans alike. We believe the new playing kit will further inspire the national team players to perform to their best abilities during the 2012 AFF Suzuki Cup, which kicks off later this month. FAS is pleased to have a partner like Nike which is renowned for its innovative product technology. We appreciate their contribution to local football over the years and look forward to further developing this partnership.”
