One of Argentina’s most popular and successful soccer teams, Club Atlético Independiente, has won 14 Argentine championships (third in titles behind to River Plate and Boca Juniors).
El Rojo (The Red) has also claimed 7 Copa Libertadores titles and a total of 16 international titles — including the 2010 Copa Sudaamericana and the 1973 and 1984 editions of the Intercontinental Cup.
Independiente featured a host of South American stars over the years including currrent Inter Milan players Gabriel Milito, Esteban Cambiasso and Diego Forlán.
Earlier this week the technical sponsor PUMA unveiled the Club Atlético Independiente 2012 home and away kits. The club’s traditional home red jersey will be worn for Saturday’s Clausura 2012 meeting with Belgrano de Córdoba at the Estadio Libertadores de América. It uses the same PUMA design as the Italy EURO 2012 home shirt.
