Los Angeles-based Major League Soccer side Chivas USA has unveiled its adidas 2012 home kit. The club launched the new uniform on Volaris flight #912 from Guadalajara, Mexico to Los Angeles on Wednesday. It will be available at the World Soccer Shop Chivas USA Store.
According to the Chivas USA website: “Welcome aboard. This is Volaris flight #912 from Guadalajara with Los Angeles as its final destination, this is your captain,” up until this moment, everything sounds like things you’d hear before a flight takes off. However, the more than 150 passengers on board exchanged surprised looks when the captain added, “I want to welcome each and every one of you, but in particular the members of the soccer team Chivas USA, who are joining us today and will present us, exclusively, their new 2012 season jersey!”
The sound of the engines that had already been turned on were not loud enough to turn down the excitement of the travelers, the Red-and-White captain, Colombian Juan Pablo Angel welcomed all the passengers in the name of the club’s players and executives. After the warm welcome, complimentary drinks were served and clips of the best Chivas USA plays were presented and a teaser video of the new jersey was also shown.
All of a sudden, all cabin lights were turned off, and dimmer lights that would most accommodate the globally famous music of DJ Tiesto, parading down the plane’s corridor, initiating the runway style show to present the new Chivas USA jersey. Goalkeeper Dan Kennedy, midfielder Jorge Villafaña and forward Juan Pablo Angel, proudly presented, throughout the plane’s corridor, the new team jersey and to add a cherry on top of the cake, members of the ChivaGirls appeared to join the team in this one-of-a-kind event, and the first in the history of soccer, 30,000 feet above sea level.
Members of international media like Fox Sports West, ESPN SportsCenter, ESPN.com, MLSsoccer.com, Televisa, Azteca America, newspapers like Los Angeles’ La Opinión, Medio Tiempo and Mural (Mexico); airline magazines Travel Times and En el Aire, as well as Radiorama were present to be witnesses of this event.
Each and every one of the passengers received the new Chivas USA jersey at the end of the event, from the hands of the infamous and beautiful ChivaGirls. Passengers of other flights and airlines, as well as visitors at the Los Angeles International Airport, were surprised to see a crowd of more than 150 people, including the Volaris flight #912 staff, proudly wearing the Chivas USA jersey.
