Substitute Frank Lampard’s late penalty sealed a 2-1 win for Chelsea over Manchester City in English Premier League action on Monday night. The loss was league leaders City’s first of the season and sees their lead over second placed Manchester United dwindle to two points.
Mercurial Italian striker put the Citizens up 1-0 after just over minute of play. The now third placed Chelsea responded with a goal from Raul Meireles in the 33rd courtesy of Daniel Sturridge’s byline pass.
Sturridge earned Chelsea Lampard’s game-winning penalty when his shot in the box was met by the raised hand of defender Joleon Lescott in the 81st minute.
