The FIFA World Club Cup Japan 2011 kicks off on Thursday with Japanese J. League Division 1 champions Kashiwa Reysol meeting 2011 OFC Champions League winners Auckland City FC. Next week UEFA Champions League winners FC Barcelona and Copa Libertadores trophy holders Santos FC enter the competition at the semi-final stage.

While the final is usually a clash between the European and South American champions, Congo DR’s TP Mazembe shocked Internacional 2-0 in the semis before falling to Inter Milan in the final.
