The latest addition to the Football Fashion soccer jersey collection is none other than the ClimaCool version brand new AC Milan 2011/12 home kit (now available at World Soccer Shop, Onionbag and Subside Sports). We’ve had one of these in our position for over the past week and have given it runs on and off the field. Here’s what we thought of it.
While the latest Milan home kit has its fair share of detractors, we like the retro-inspired design that adidas has used to once again reinvent the Rossoneri jersey. The thinner stripes in this year’s edition compliments the jersey’s crew neck and white cuffs to invoke memories of the classic AC Milan kits of the 1950s and 1960s. Indeed, adidas has made it known that this shirt was inspired by those of the distant past. The end result is a modern classic that will feature in the upcoming Italian and UEFA Champions League seasons.
A couple of nice features of the AC Milan 2011/12 home jersey not readily seen in the pictures of the shirt released by adidas are the ventilated shoulder and underarm areas of the shirt. Not only do these look good but they are quite functional for keeping the upper torso cool when wearing this kit in hot temperatures.
We got a size Men’s Large of the AC Milan adidas 2011/12 home kit. This is the usual shirt size of our tester. He found that the shirt fits true to size. However, it is somewhat looser fitting compared to many of today’s other soccer jerseys which have been designed with slimmer fits to match current fashion trends. Therefore, if you want a tighter fit, you should be fine going a size down on this beauty.
The AC Milan adidas 11/12 home feels remarkably light and comfortable on the skin. Our tester has worn this shirt for one pick-up match of soccer, one gym workout and one night at the pub (after being washed each time of course) and reports it to wear very well. He said that it absorbs and disseminates sweat very well. He gave a special mention to the underarm ventilation for excellent cooling effects.
As with many of the kits that it provides to storied clubs, adidas has provided several extras with the AC Milan 2011/12 home jersey.
The first of these is an Italian flag patch which can be ironed on to the shirt if you so desire. Milan usually wears one of these in the center breast area of their jerseys for European matches.
Maintaining an Italian theme, the 11/12 AC Milan kit also features piping in the green and white of the Italian flag to the sides of the stripes on its from. Combine the piping with the predominant red of the shirt and you’ve got all of the colors of the national flag.
Lastly, the back of the upper neck area of the shirt features a strip of miniature Italian flags below classic-feeling cursive text reading Associazione Calcio Milan, the full name of the legendary AC Milan.
Whether you’re an AC Milan fan or kit collector, the club’s 2011/12 home kit is one of these best in recent years. From functionality to feel to its extras, we are a fan of it. It is among our favorites this kit cycle.
Thanks to Alessandro!
