Considered also-rans for many years, Ecuador is now one of the leading candidates when it comes to the South American qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup and are expected to be formidable opponents in July’s Copa America 2011.

El Tricolor, who only made it to the finals of a FIFA World Cup for the first time in 2002 had a good run in the 2006 edition of the tournament before falling 1-0 to England in the Round of 16.

On Thursday night in Quito, the Ecuador Copa America 2011 home and away kits were launched in an elaborate ceremony hosted by gear provider Marathon Sports. The Ecuador Marathon 2011/12 home kit will also be worn on by Manchester United’s Antonio Valencia and the rest of El Tricolor for their 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers over the next year. Ecuador is grouped with Brazil, Paraguay and Venezuela for the Copa America 2011.
