The Basque Country football team be considered the national team of the Basque Country greater region. It is made up of selected players from the Basque Country Autonomous Community, nearby Navarre and the Northern Basque Country in France. The team is to by various names including Euskal Herriko Selekzioa, Selección de Euskadi, Euskal Selekzioa, Euskadi XI and Basque XI.
The Basque Country football team is not affiliated with FIFA or UEFA and therefore only plays non-sanctionedd friendly matches. Players who have represented the team include French and Spanish internationals such as Bixente Lizarazu, Didier Deschamps, Iván Campo and Fernando Llorente.
Yesterday, the Euskadiko Futbol Federakundea (Basque Football Federation) announced that the Basque Country team will meet up and coming South American side Venezuela on December 29 in Bilbao. As part of the announcement the Basque Country Astore home kit for 2011 was unveiled. It will be worn by the team for the Venezuela match.
