It is organised by the Catalonia Football Federation. The team has been referred to by various names including Selecció Catalana, Selecció de Barcelona and the Catalan XI. Catalonia is not affiliated to either FIFA or UEFA and the team does not participate in either the FIFA World Cup or the European Championship. Instead, Catalonians are full Spanish citizens and eligible to play for Spain, with several such as Carles Puyol, Gerard Piqué, Víctor Valdés representing the Spanish national team.

The Catalan national team are currently coached by FC Barcelona and Dutch legend Johan Cruyff. They’ll be hosting FIFA World Cup bound Argentina on December 22nd in a friendly called el Trofeo Catalunya Internacional (The Catalan International Cup) at FC Barcelona’s Camp Nou stadium.

On December 10th at La Sala de Exposiciones del Fomento de las Artes y del Diseño (FAD) Catalunya presented their 2010/11 Astore home and away kits. The new strips will make their on the field debut in the Argentina match.
