Missing big name signings Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka,  Real opened the scoring after 54 minutes when Karim Benzema set up Gonzalo Higuain’s header.

Higuain’s second and a header from substitute Eziquiel Garay sealed Los Merengues’ win.

David Villa and Joaquin kept that game close with equalizers in response to Madrid’s first two goals.
