adidas and the South African Football Association have launched the South Africa national football team jersey to be used by Bafana Bafana as their home kit during FIFA World Cup 2010.
The new South Africa adidas home jersey will see action for the first time ever during Bafana Bafana’s November 14th friendly with World Cup qualifier Japan in Port Elizabeth.
Website Shine 2010 states:
The jersey design was influenced by the diversity of our country and its 11 main communities and languages spoken – all of which will be unified behind our country and team during the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The jersey incorporates 11 threads that symbolise this diversity in unity and modern interpretations of traditional South African artwork, and celebrates the pride of our host nation by displaying the centre of the national flag on its front.
Notable features of the South Africa adidas World Cup 2010 home shirt include:
- The shapes and designs on the new kit are inspired by a visual language born out of a modern interpretation of traditional South African artwork.
- The Protea Flower represents diversity and courage and is found over the heart of the new home kit.
- A mixture of Twilight and Forest Greens combine to create the new away kit.
