Kaká scored in the 5th minute, Marcelo in the 25th minute and Gonzalo Higuaín in the 64th put Los Merengues up 3-0. However, after Ramos was ejected in the 66th Diego Forlán (79) and his Argentinian strike partner (81) Kun Aguero led a spirited Atletico comeback that just fell short.

Real Madrid remain in second place in the Spanish La Liga, one point behind leaders FC Barcelona.
