Mexico took a step closer to FIFA World Cup 2010 last night with a hard-earned 1-0 win over a tenacious Honduras at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City.

Mexico’s game winner came from a 75th minute penalty from Chicago Fire player and Mexican legend Cuauhtémoc Blanco following Maynor Figueroa’s foul on Giovanni Dos Santos in the box.

El Tri now sit in second position with 15 points in the CONCACAF World Cup qualifying hexagonal with two games to go. The United States lead the group with 16 points.
