Spanish La Liga contenders Club Atlético de Madrid have unveiled their Nike home and away kits for the 2009/10 season. Here’s a look at the strips that Kun Aguero and company will wear as their challenge the likes of Real Madrid and FC Barcelona for supremacy in Spain next season.
The 2009/10 Nike Club Atlético de Madrid home jersey is now available at World Soccer Shop.
This is the spiel on the Atlético’s new kits from their website:
The ‘rojiblanco’ jersey, emblem of the Club, has been modified in several aspects. To begin with, the number of stripes has been increased and are therefore thinner, with the central part of the front of the jersey being red. This change is to get closer to the beginnings of the Atleti vest. On the other hand, the other big novelty is the recovery of the polo-type collar, which will be red, after several years without one. The Spanish flag will remain on the rear part of the collar.
Made with a very breathable fabric for greater comfort of the footballers, the screen printing (name and number) of the striped jersey will be the same as that from last season, blue with platinum borders. What has changed is the inscription on the inside of the collar, which will be changed from ‘Bendita afición’ (‘Blessed fans’) to ‘Espíritu de superación’ (‘Overcoming spirit’). On the other hand, a small label appears the sides, with ‘Atlético de Madrid’ on one side and ‘1903’, the year in which the Club was founded, on the other.
And finally, the shorts will remain the traditional blue colour, with a red stripe down the sides, while the socks will be red with a blue stripe.
The second kit to be worn by all of the teams which form part of the ‘rojiblanco’ organization is undoubtedly very novel and attractive. Black is the colour chosen for the 2009/2010 campaign, both for the jersey and the shorts. This shade has never been linked to Atlético de Madrid — a few years ago it appeared next to yellow stripes — but it has positively impacted the Atleti fans. The socks will also be black with a red stripe. The screen printing will be red, with a vertical line of the same colour appearing below it.
