Review: PUMA Brasil 70 Windbreaker

What it is

The Brasil 70 Windbreaker is a trendy wind and water resistant jacket with zip-off removable sleeves and a gradient in the national colors of Brazil. It is inspired by PUMA’s Brasil sneaker which, in turn, celebrates the all-conquering Brazil 1970 World Cup team (regarded as the best of all time by many football experts).

PUMA’s Brasil 70 Windbreaker is made of 100% plain woven polyester with a full-zip closure and internal storm flap. The pullover is meshed-lined throughout its inside including its hood. An elasticated drawcord plus cord stoppers provide for an an adjustable fit.

The top is completed by dual zip pockets at the waist along with a track jacket-styled ribbed waistline and cuffs. PUMA’s vintage No. 1 logo and a block 70 graphic are printed on the windbreaker’s chest.  Finally, a printed label describing the legacy of the PUMA Brasil shoe is stitched onto the inside of the top.

What we think

The Brasil 70 Windbreaker’s design brilliantly captures flair that Brazil and its soccer are known for while cleverly mixing modern style with some classic elements. Its colorway is very much one that is perfectly suited for the Spring and Summer seasons and in-tune with the bright colors used for many of today’s athletic and soccer shoes.

At the same time the jacket is fully a functional windbreaker that will keep your upper body sheltered from cooler breezes and dry while out in the rain. We can even imagine it out on a boat with water splashing onboard.

The ribbed waistline and cuffs is a stroke of genius from the designers of this piece and is something rarely seen in a windbreaker. Given how well this works, PUMA may be on the cusp of a new trend.

When to wear

The PUMA Brasil 70 Windbreaker can be worn anywhere from a rainy day on the soccer pitch to wet weather training to casual clothing settings. Since it represents Brazil and the sport of soccer, it is also ideal for showing your fandom for The Beautiful Game over the next three months of World Cup build-up and completion.
