English FA Unveils 150th Anniversary Crest

The English Football Association has unveiled a brand new crest in recognition of its 150th anniversary in 2013.

According to the FA website: The Football Association looked to the past when it began devising a new logo that would help celebrate and elevate the organisation’s 150th anniversary in 2013.

Although the traditional Three Lions crest has been retained, it has been presented for the first time in gold to underline the significance of The FA’s landmark year.

The last refresh of the crest occurred three years ago, with an updated design giving it greater visual impact in the digital age.

But this latest version goes a step further with the addition of a new 150-specific mark underneath.

A key element of the wider brand was also to reflect the handwritten rules from the original FA Minute Book which is still in The FA’s possession.

It contains the laws of the game penned at the very first meeting at The Freemasons’ Tavern, near Holborn in central London back on 26 October 1863.

All of organised football in the world can be traced back to that momentous occasion.

The tagline ‘Supporting football since 1863’ also affirms The FA’s commitment to growing the game from grassroots and to providing the framework for everyone to enjoy it.

FA Chairman David Bernstein said: “It is a great honour to be Chairman of The Football Association as we head into our 150th year.

“It is incredible to think how the game has developed from that very first meeting at the Freemasons’ Tavern in October 1863.

“Those founding fathers had real foresight to bring order and organisation to the game.

“Still, despite their sporting values and vision, no-one could have foreseen what football would come to mean for the nation.

“It truly is the national game and one in which we should all take tremendous pride.

“There can scarcely be a family in England that is not touched by football in some way and we at The FA take our responsibility to support the game very seriously.”
