Video: Chicago Fire 1 – Chivas USA 0 (Superliga 2009)

BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. —  With a line-up of mainly reserve players, the Chicago Fire got a 1-0 win against visiting Chivas USA  in SuperLiga 2009 action last night.

Justin Mapp scored in the 35th minute as the Fire held recorded their second consecutive shutout in SuperLiga play. The victory gave the Fire a 2-0-0 record (six points) in group play. Chivas dropped to 0-2-0 in the tournament.

The format of this year’s SuperLiga consists of the top MLS teams from last year’s regular season who did not qualify for the CONCACAF Champions League along with the top four Mexican clubs who also didn’t make the region’s top club tournament.

Veteran Mexican internationals Claudio Suarez and Cuauhtemoc Blanco were on the bench for Chivas USA and the Chicago Fire respectively. Neither saw any game action.
